I was looking through my pics whilst making my mum a personalised calendar for christmas [also canvassing other members of the family for their best pics] and saw this one taken on 13th October when I finally emptied the greenhouse which was late this year given the mild weather - the peppers did very well this year - just thought it’s a nice colourful pic in comparison to dreary days!
I’ve finally done the calendar which was free from Vistaprint - will judge when I see the finished product but sure mum will love it whatever and of course I was tempted to buy other things - they’re very clever in their marketing - before you know it you have personalised pens, mugs, an address stamp etc etc when all you wanted was a calendar!

Kettlesnout Brother Scott [Scotty] has won his first trophy with his owner Catherine - we were chuffed to hear this at the weekend so well done to both!

We had new photos and another lovely email from the other Estella’s new owners on the Isle of Wight at the weekend, she too is in a super home and has settled well with her new friend Hettie. Estella and Hettie have apparently settled well into a good routine, out all day and in at night which we also follow here for foals at Kettlesnout, once the bad weather arrives.
Being the native breed they are, shetlands prefer to be outdoors and generally the only time we stable them is as foals, at night during their first winter [and also mares in foal who are close to foaling so we can observe them on CCTV to ensure safe foalings]. This is also the only time they receive hard feed, the foals getting a high protein balancer together with some cool mix. We have tended more recently to stick to low sugar feeds for older ponies such as Dodson and Horrell Safe and Sound and Spillers high fibre cubes. All other ponies get hay when needed in winter.

A super email arrived yesterday from the new owner of one of our ponies, Little May [Dilston Mayflower]. May and her 2011 foal Estella had been on a fun day out, May being ridden and Estella in disguise!
How lovely to see them out and about and looking so laid back, taking it all in their stride. It’s a first class home for May and it was lovely to get the comment:
“May gives us back so much…she is a very very special and lovely Pony”

Rosie and her 2 year old daughter Kettlesnout Evening Rose [Evie] are back together for the winter after Rosie’s 2011 foal, Summer Rose, has been weaned. When I went to check on the ponies there they were stood contentedly together.
Next year we plan to run Rosie with Prince, although she’s had 2 super foals with Piper, we’re sure Rosie and Prince will produce another super foal too.

Took these pics of Poppy today, she’s a lovely sweet pony, currently 5 months pregnant. We’re hoping for another little one like Scotty, her last foal to Prince.

Estella is now at her lovely new home on the Isle of Wight. She travelled to Reading last Tuesday, staying overnight at the Shetland Sale and then onwards on Wednesday, taking it all in her stride, bless her.

The mares were very happy to move into their winter field today, their current field having been topped at the weekend. They have been wormed and had their feet trimmed so are ready for the long winter! There is much more grass than this time last year, so depending on how much snow we have, hay consumption may be less than last year. We managed to cut 2 fields of hay so have a bit to go at and might not to have to buy too much in! Fingers crossed!

India is now shaping up nicely after a lanky start. As she’s grown as well as her moon shape on her face, she now has a patch of white on her nose so now has a new nickname. We’ve started the weaning process for her and Silvie today, she went in for 2 hours and we’ll gradually increase that each day.

Stella and Summer are now weaned and ready for their new homes. Both have been little stars, settling with minimum fuss. Stella has been getting used to going in the trailer ready for her trip to her new home on the Isle of Wight - she’s gone straight in each time bless her. Stella will have another 2011 filly at her new home to grow up with.
Summer’s is going a bit closer [over in Lancashire] and she too will have other shetland friends so we’re really pleased with their new homes.
